Czechs to Help Modernize Six Hospitals in Ukraine with EU Support
Czech medical aid to Ukraine began immediately after Russia invaded the country three years ago and has since reached hundreds of millions of crowns. Now, the Czech Republic has scored another major success allowing to stand out in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine’s healthcare system.
Thanks to the EU’s Ukraine Facility Program, the European Commission has approved a CZK 4.7 billion (€188 million) package of guarantees and grants for the Czech Republic. Out of this amount, CZK 2.2 billion (€88 million) will be dedicated to reconstructing and modernizing six Ukrainian hospitals.
For the first time, the Czech Republic has received direct EU funding in the form of bank loan guarantees, grants, and technical assistance for healthcare infrastructure projects in Ukraine. The selected hospitals are located in the Lviv, Rivne, Volyn, Kyiv, and Dnipro regions. The guarantees earmarked for Ukraine also represent a significant boost for the Czech sector of medical device manufacturers and exporters. Thanks to the support provided, Ukrainian hospitals will be able to purchase, for example, modern medical equipment from Czech companies or request “soft” support in the form of training and coaching from Czech experts. In the case of complex deliveries, there are also opportunities for international companies that can complement the offers of Czech manufacturers. The Czech-Taiwanese project supporting Ukrainian healthcare, running until 2026, follows a similar model, fostering international cooperation and expertise-sharing.
This effort is part of the EU’s €50 billion Ukraine Facility, aimed at revitalizing Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure while stimulating investments across the European medical and industrial sectors. By supporting companies involved in Ukraine’s reconstruction, the initiative ensures that resources benefit both Ukraine and the EU economy.
